CeoTronics Communication Systems with ATEX certification – Please note!

You have made the right decision by buying CeoTronics products for communication in hazardous areas.

When developing and designing communication systems and accessories, CeoTronics puts greatest importance to security, ease of handling and wearing comfort. All products are very reliable and resistant against heat and coldness and to all typical use conditions in chemical industry, offshore, pharmacy or even food productions. Especially for communication systems in explosion-protected ATEX design CeoTronics products are conceived for long-term use and are also extremely durable.

Should your communication system once needs to be repaired, please note that all CeoTronics communication systems with ATEX certification can only be repaired in the CeoTronics Headquarter in Rödermark (Germany). Training and periodic auditing of service providers would be too complex and expensive for these rare cases.

Since 07.01.2003 it has been mandatory to apply ATEX Directive 94/9/EC in the following countries:
EU: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, UK
EFTA: Liechtenstein, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland.

May pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products still be used?
A so-called "safeguard of existing standards" is in place for pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products that were brought onto the market before 07.01.2003; this means that they may still be used.

Will CeoTronics continue to repair pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products?
Repairs at CeoTronics are still possible if the repaired appliance is returned to its original state without modifying it.

Can we still obtain pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products from CeoTronics, e.g. as replacements for lost appliances?
Since 07.01.2003, only products for use in potentially explosive atmospheres that conform to the ATEX Directive may be brought onto the market.
Lost appliances can be replaced by new ATEX products.

Can we already buy ATEX products from CeoTronics?
Since 06.01.2003, CeoTronics has been offering a broad, practically unchanged range of products for use in potentially explosive atmospheres that are certified by ATEX type examination tests.

Can pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products from CeoTronics be con-verted into ATEX products?
In general yes, but it depends in individual cases on the type and the condition of the products. CeoTronics will be pleased to provide an estimate.

Is it permissible to combine pre-ATEX (Cenelec) products with ATEX products?
Yes; for example, an ATEX product from CeoTronics may be switched together with a pre-ATEX (Cenelec) radio if the electric threshold data are compatible. The appliance manufacturers supply the threshold data, e.g. in the operating manual or in the type-examination certificate (previously the certificate of conformity). Here the lowest protective stage of a system component determines the protective stage of the complete system.

Is it permissible, for example, with the CT-ContactCom audio system to combine a pre-ATEX (Cenelec) micro-phone/speaker unit with an ATEX PTT unit?
No! Even with plug-in systems you may only combine parts that come from a single type examination test (previously the conformity test); this can be seen from the test number and the type designation, e.g. TÜV 03 ATEX 2100, ContactCom/Ex-1.
